The Highlights of the ZOO Liberec |

The zoo breeds more than 170 species with an overall number of 1000 individuals. More than 500 animals are registered in different European conservation programmes as EEP, ESB and RDB. These national programmes try to save species facing extinction. The treaty CITES concerning the international market of endangered species has the same aim.

Golden takin (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi) - the only breed outside China, except two Japanese zoos. First takins came to the zoo from ZOO Beijing, China in 2002, first young takin was born in 2004.

White form of bengal tigers (Panthera tigris) - the only breed within the Czech Republic. First white tigers came to the zoo from ZOO Eskilstuna, Sweden in 1994, first young tigers (triplets) were born in 2002.

Somali Wild Ass (Equus africanus somalicus) - the biggest breeding group within the Czech Republic. First ass came to the zoo from ZOO Oberwill, Switzerland in 1991, first young ass was born in 1995.

Eurasian bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) - ZOO Liberec has joined of reintroduction programme (back animals to the wild in the Alps and Cazorla) in the case of the prey of bird since 2001. First bearded vulture came to the zoo in 1986, first young was born in 2001.

Bharal (Pseudois nayaur) - the only breed within the Czech Republic. First bharal came to the zoo from ZOO Guangzhou, China in 2001, first young bharal was born in 2003.

Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) - one of the biggest group within the Czech Republic. First chimpanzees came to the zoo in 60´s, first young chimpanzee was born in 1972.

East Caucasian Tur (Capra cylindricornis) - one of the four breeds within Europe. First east caucasian tur came to the zoo from ZOO Moscow, USSR in 1961, first young tur was born in 1964.

Snow Leopard (Uncia uncia) - first young snow leopard within former Czechoslovakia was born in 1990 in the ZOO Liberec. First snow leopard came to the zoo in 1987.

Kea (Nestor notabilis) - a pair of the crazy parrot (native country South Island New Zealand) came to the zoo in 2008.
